About us

Jennifer Chang, MBA, B.Ed.

School Principal

Toronto Mandarin School has been providing top-quality Mandarin Chinese language instruction to children, youth, adults, businesses and organizations for the past 15 years. In the beginning, we started with only 23 students. Now we boast 80 teachers, 56 courses, over 1000 students and 7 locations.

Our primary goal is to teach our students Putonghua (Standard Mandarin), modern Chinese phonetic system (Hanyu pinyin), and simplified Chinese characters, using the official language system of Mainland China. And in doing so, we accomplish our Mission:  To share and educate others about the Chinese language and culture, thereby encouraging a broader understanding and appreciation of the world beyond our borders.

Ni Hao!

My name is Jennifer. I am so proud of Toronto Mandarin School – our dedicated teachers, our supportive families and our ambitious students. After co-founding the school 15 years ago, I’ve watched students – year after year – achieve their goals and move forward with more confidence and greater opportunities. It reminds me of when I first came to Canada and learned English; my life changed. Learning a new language is like opening a new window to see the world. Let’s explore it together.

Jennifer Chang, B. Ed., MBA
Principal, Co-founder

The teachers at Toronto Mandarin School are committed to providing every student with an optimal environment for learning the language and experiencing the culture. We guarantee results because we have the following:

Our certified, professional educators are native speakers from mainland China. They are experienced in working with different age groups and teaching Mandarin in a Western cultural context.

The curriculum and our methods for teaching Mandarin are based on an understanding that the language will be taught as a second language. We also take into account individual needs and use various teaching strategies to encourage active learning. For example, role play and studying common phrases, used on a daily basis, makes learning more interesting, relevant and fun. For example, role play exercises and focus on commonly-used phrases, makes learning more interesting, relevant and fun.

We collaborate with overseas educators and educational publishers to develop Mandarin learning materials that are written for foreigners who are interested in learning Mandarin as a second language. We also develop various supplementary materials to meet our students’ unique needs.

We support our students by offering a 24/7 hotline/email, free language-exchange partners and cultural immersion experiences, which ultimately enhance the learning process.
